Dr. Angela Peterson
Dr. Angela Peterson, Managing Veterinarian for the Animal Health Center, joined the Animal Health Center team in June of 1992. A native of Gautier, Mississippi, she received her undergraduate education at Mississippi State University and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. Dr. Peterson resides in Madison with her husband Joel Shows, their dogs Jack and Sue, and their cat Spif. She is also an active member of the Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club. In her spare time, Dr. Peterson enjoys reading, eating out, wine-tasting, exercising and golf.
Dr. Jessica Dees
Dr. Jessica Dees joined the Animal Health Center in June of 2006. She is the wife of Jeremy Allen Dees and daughter of Lesly Loyd. She resides in Brandon, Mississippi.
Dr. Dees was born in Columbia, South America in 1980 and moved to the United States in 1985. She graduated from Brandon High School in 1998 with the honorary title of "Best All-Around" female student. She attended Hinds Community College and then Mississippi State University where she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Animal and Dairy Science. Dr. Dees attended Mississippi State University-College of Veterinary Medicine where she completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. During an exciting freshman year, she was invited to represent Mississippi State University on a veterinary student panel in Washington D.C. In her senior year, she received the Salsbary scholarship.
Since 1998, Dr. Dees has served her country in the Mississippi Air National Guard, specifically working in the Logistics division. She aspires to become commissioned soon, and transition into the Public Health division. Jessica thoroughly enjoys this aspect of her life and hopes to fullfil 25 years of traditional guard duty.
During her spare time, Dr. Dees enjoys dancing, working out, reading, and traveling. She values quality time spent with her husband and four animals, Roscoe, Molly, Tux, and Clipper. Jessica believes in family game night, the golden rule, and living life with no regrets.
Dr. Gina Blackwell
Dr. Blackwell, a native of Laurel, MS, joined the Animal Health Center in July 2007. Her undergraduate work was completed at Hinds Community College and Mississippi College. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi Sate University in 2007. Prior to Veterinary school, Dr. Blackwell worked as a registered respitory therapist for 11 years in the Jackson area. She currently resides in Canton with her dogs Syd and Callie and her cat Barley. During her free time, she enjoys golfing, cooking out, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
Dr. B.J. Cash
Dr. Cash joined the Animal Health Center in January 2008. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Cash received his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Mississippi University.
After briefly working in Tupelo, MS. following his graduation in 1994, he relocated to Louisville, Kentucky becoming a partner in an emergency/critical care specialty veterinary practice. Dr. Cash's special area of interest include orthopedic/soft tissue surgery, critical care and ophthalmology.
Dr. Cash is married to Amy Cash and has two teenage children that he and his wife homeschool. The Cash family is completed by their three cats, all named after authors: Kipling, Emerson, and Tolkien.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Cash enjoys golf, tennis and culinary arts.
